What do you think of when you imagine a holiday in Spain? Beaches? Parties? Mountains? Bullfighting? Sangría?
We don’t know which Spain you have in mind, but
we can show you one and it’s a very special one: Jerez de la Frontera. Do you
know where it is? Jerez is in the south of Spain, in the province of Cádiz, and
you can see and do a lot of different things there.
The staff of Tenidiomas always say: “There are
tons of things you can do in Jerez for less than 20€! It’s true!” Ok,
Tenidiomas, please show us what can we do with less than 20€ in Jerez de la
Frontera.
1. Tour of Jerez
There is a company that offers a tour
through the city centre with a likeable man, Javi. You can learn about the
history of Jerez and some of its local habits by listening to the things that
the guide says to you. The best thing about this company is that the tour is
“free”. There is no price for their service, just your tips. You can pay the
price you consider appropriate if you think that the tour has been interesting!
Price: your opinion.
2. Alcázar and Cámara Oscura
The Alcázar is a former Moorish fortress, now
housing a park, that was declared Bien de
Interés Cultural in 1931. The Cámara Oscura is a dark room located at the
top of the tower of the Palace of Villavicencio inside the Alcázar. The Cámara
Oscura projects real moving images from outside on a screen, turning 360
degrees, while a guide explains everything to be seen. For more information,

3. Tasting Sherry
There are a lot of bars and tabancos
where you can taste the real sherry wine. What is a tabanco? It is a mixture
between a tavern and a wine shop, where you can find different types of sherry
wine. There is one tabanco that Tenidiomas recommends: tabanco Plateros. We
recommend this tabanco because it offers a really great way to present sherry
wines (see photo). In this way you can taste different wines and have an idea
of what the most famous wines of Jerez taste like. Price: 8€
4. Claustros de
Santo Domingo
Its historical importance lies in
the fact that it is one of the first temples built outside the city walls. Los
Claustros were restored two years ago. Price: Free

5. Flamenco show
Jerez de la Frontera is very famous for the flamenco culture. We have to
remember that a lot of important flamenco festivals are celebrated in this
city. Some peñas or bars offer flamenco shows with dinner, but there is one
tabanco that offers you a free flamenco show every Saturday at 14:00. Click
here for more information. Price: Free
6. Tapas
We have shown you sherry, monuments, tourism…
so now we are hungry! We have to mention places to eat! In Jerez you can find a
lot of bars and restaurants where you can eat very well, but we are going to
explain to you bars where you can eat some tapas with a very nice price. One of
them it could be “El Asador”. It is in the city centre and their tapas are very
big and delicious for just 2.50€ each tapa.
7. Wineries
One of the most famous things in Jerez is its
wine, and of course, the places where it is made. Jerez has a lot of wineries
all around the city and most of them are open to visit. Wineries such as González
Byass, Bodegas Tradición, Bodegas Fundador, Bodega Díez Mérito, etc., have an
entrance fee of 10€ approx.
8. Train Tour
Are you too tired to walk around the city? Let’s
go by train! There is a train that offers you a 45 minutes tour through the
main part of Jerez. Click here for more information. Price: 4€
9. Archeological Museum
Apart from wine and horses, Jerez has a great
and interesting history to show us. There is an archeological museum where you
can learn about all the different civilizations that have passed through Jerez
and what each has given to the city. Every first Sunday of the month is free!
10. Carmelitas
And last but not least… you have to try carmelitas! What are they? A very
typical type of sweet in Jerez. They are delicious! You can find a recipe here. Price: 1€
